Environmental Responsibility

Recycling is a must. It’s impossible to talk about sustainable actions and choices without immediately thinking about recycling.

But before anything else, recycling is a matter of creating the awareness that any small gesture contributes to revert the degradation of our natural resources. Empax understands that in this fight, the industries should be in the forefront, educating, raising awareness and providing sustainable alternatives for their production.

Packaging is part of the human culture; they are engraved in the collective memory of societies and are indispensable to modern life. They provide practicality and hygiene, transportability and appeal to the client, however; it is certain that its cost to the environment can be high if there is no monitoring of its life cycle. Currently in São Paulo, the majority of domestic waste is not recycled. This can be turned around, and Empax already contributes positively towards this.

Empax wishes to share its commitment towards sustainability, showing some of the concrete actions it undertakes through the proper final disposal of its industrial scrap and its trash, as well as the transformation of these materials into new products by means of important partnerships with selected companies.

 Aluminum

Recyclable Material:
Aluminum packaging trims and rejects.

Usage:
Packaging, printed or not, for pharmaceutical products, lids and seals.

Processing:
Empax material that contains aluminum in its composition is sent to the company where it will be transformed.

The aluminum is melted in large furnaces that transform the waste into ingots. These are sold and subsequently molded in a variety of formats.

Final Material:
Aluminum ingots.

 BOPP

Recyclable Material:
Bi-oriented polypropylene – BOPP trims and rejects.

Usage:
Packaging for cookies, snacks, labels, chocolates, etc.

Processing:
Empax material that contains BOPP in its composition is sent to the company where it will be transformed.

The impurities are separated and the clean material goes to a grinding machine which transforms it in micro-parts. Later, this material is placed in an extrusion machine that, via high temperatures and addition of pigments, transforms BOPP into granulated resin.
This resin is used in injection machines that manufacture rigid products.

Final Material:
Vases and material for floriculture.

 Wood

Recyclable Material:
Wood from pallets and wrappings.

Usage:
Support for packaging and transportation of raw material used in the plant as well as the finished products destined to the clients.

Processing:

Broken or damaged pallets cannot be used in the Empax productive chain, but are by no means disposed of. The material is sent to the company that will recycle the wood to manufacture other objects.

The pallets are disassembled and cleaned, and the nails are removed. The wood is cut and sanded in specific formats for the assembly of new products.

Final Material:
Wooden toys and furniture for children.

 Polyethylene

Recyclable Material:
Trims and rejects of structures with Polyethylene.

Usage:
Polyethylene is mainly used for sachets, dry mixtures, cleaning products, coffee, soap, snacks packagings, among others.

Processing:
Empax material that contains polyethylene in its composition is sent to the company where it will be transformed.

The polyethylene is grinded into small pieces and placed in a mold where it is pressed with heat, thereby melting the polyethylene and forming a rigid piece.

One great advantage of this process is the vast variety of products that can be obtained, because as long as there is a minimum quantity of polyethylene, it is possible to mix it with other material, including paper, thereby considerably broadening the range of recycling possibilities of this material.

Final Material:
Plates for sidings, linings for tiles and wood substitute products.

 Polypropylene

Recyclable Material:
Polypropylene spools.

Usage:
Packaging Support for raw material reels.

Processing:
Empax material that contains polypropylene in its composition is sent to the company where it will be transformed.
The polypropylene is separated by colors: then the material is grinded into small pieces, facilitating the next processing step.

The grinded material is processed until reaching a granulated form. In this stage the pigmentation also takes place with adequate coloring dyes. At this point the resin grains will be ready to be injected in the desired formats.

Final Material:
Brooms.
